Problem

In the development of a new B2B web service, many of the functionalities were already well underway when I entered the project. My role was to assist in the development of a GUI for the system.

Approach

The first step was to gain as much information about the project as possible as to get a complete understanding of the requirements from the stakeholders and for the system, to determine the best approach.

Following Design Thinking methodology, with information gained from meetings with key project people and research into related works, the initial design requirements for the GUI were synthesized. Next, these requirements framed a design exploration that led to a low fidelity prototype which was designed to enable an online qualitative test due to the pandemic restrictions. Its purpose was to evaluate the initial design decisions of the GUI and support an interview into the userflow and user needs with an internal user relations expert.

Results were analyzed and synthesized into next steps and presented at a milestone meeting with stakeholders. With these additional research insights, the design requirements and framing were adapted and focused for another design exploration and a high fidelity prototype of the GUI. This prototype was presented at another milestone meeting and would mark the end of the internship.

Results

The work presented at the meetings provided affirming and new beneficial insights that sparked internal discussions among the stakeholders and had a direct impact on the final design of the B2B web service.

Mention

"Kim assisted us in the process of developing a GUI for a new B2B web service. Through qualitative methods, he collected user requirements, built and tested a rapid prototype. This prototype created exciting discussions among the stakeholders and his work had a direct impact on the final product. With high spirits and determination, he worked independently and met every deadline."
